Norton Snap

Challenge

Norton Snap became a high priority after Norton Security retail packages started using it for QR code scanning to help users activate their subscriptions, but the app previously had a poor user experience and an outdated interface.

The scan window was too small and had no scan capture confirmation, so users couldn't tell if a code had actually been read.
Menus were cluttered with obsolete calls to action and app logos that no longer matched the rest of the Norton product line.
Not every QR code contains a URL, so the redesign had to handle six-plus distinct result types beyond a simple safe or unsafe link.

Scans a QR code, often to activate a Norton Security subscription from a retail package, and needs to know instantly whether it's safe to proceed.

My Role

Mobile UI/UX Designer: owned the full redesign, from studying the existing experience with the product manager and engineers through final screens and a new app logo.

Design and Product Decisions

Redesigned the app logo across five icon densities, from 48px to 192px, to match the rest of the Norton product line.
Designed distinct scan result states for safe, warning, malicious, and untested links, plus non-URL results like contact info, calendar events, and location data.
Consolidated cluttered, obsolete menu options into a single sidebar, replacing a scattered set of distracting calls to action.
Added interchangeable premium product banners, choosing whichever ad best matched each app's own Google Play rating strength.
